James Donavon Bothell

Misunderstanding the summons, “Follow me and I’ll make you fishers of men,” James Donavon Bothell became a fishing boat captain at 20. After fishing Alaskan waters for over twenty years, he retired at 48 years of age to completely devote himself to the transformation fostered by a sincere yoga practice.
The author offers gratitude to a lineage of yogis reviving yoga in the modern world. His beloved teacher, Marie Svoboda, shared with B.K.S. Iyengar, Indra Devi, Pattabhi Jois, and T.K.V. Desikachar, the blessing of studying with one of the greatest yogis of our era, Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya.
Krishnamacharya envisioned a rebirth in the West of the understanding revealed through yoga. Radically, he predicted the future of yoga rests with women and children. James Donavon Bothell represents the third generation manifesting this awakening.
I see my life
come shining
from the west
down to the east.
Any day now,
any day now,
I shall be released.
- Bob Dylan
"I’m the person whose job it was to write this book. With the current crisis of obesity in our culture, the timing is right for deeper exploration of yoga. The techniques described in this text provide the insights. I am only a facilitator. The concepts shared here, and much more, are available to those who embrace this timeless practice.” - Don Bothell
